When babies are born they are naturally bow legged and their feet are curved in a banana shape. As they mature and reach their developmental milestones, their legs and feet turn out into a more “normal” position. Flat feet, in-toeing, out-toeing, bow legs, knock knees and toe walking usually resolve at an early age but may need to be discussed with a podiatrist if any of these problems persist.
Children will sometimes complain of aching legs in bed after activity and this is often passed off as growing pains. However, poor alignment, flat feet and other biomechanical problems are usually the cause of such pain. We are able to diagnose and treat these children who can return to activity immediately. It is not necessary to wait for your child to “grow out of it” as prescription orthotic treatments are extremely effective.
